How the evacuation system works in the Kharkiv region: the EU Ambassador’s visit to the transit centre

Yevhen Kolyada, Chair of the charitable organisation ‘Coordination Humanitarian Centre’, outlined how the evacuation system is currently operating in the Kharkiv region and the challenges faced by humanitarian organisations. The discussion focused primarily on the increase in the number of evacuations following the expansion of the list of settlements subject to mandatory evacuation.

During the meeting, the discussion centred on what people need after they have been evacuated. This includes new temporary accommodation, designed with inclusivity in mind, continuous humanitarian support and sufficient funding to ensure that every evacuee can receive assistance tailored to their needs.

The issue of the safety of humanitarian workers and volunteers operating in frontline communities was raised separately. Evacuation teams are increasingly working under the threat of FPV drones, so the protection of these teams and mental health support programmes remain a top priority.
